PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structurally simple ink jet head having plural head chips, and a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: The ink jet head 52 is formed by directly joining print elements 10A and 10B composed of the head chip 12, which is formed with a nozzle, and a head chip holding member 14A whereto the head chip 12 is fixed. Accordingly, an intermediate member for joining the print elements 10A and 10B together or the like is made unnecessary to enable the provision of the compact ink jet head 52 having a simple structure. In this manufacturing process, the first and second print elements 10A and 10B, which partially overlap each other, are located accurately to enable the accurate securement of the mutual parallelism of the head chips 12.
