The connecting piece has a threaded joint and is intended to be pressed onto the end of a pipe (15), such as a plastics water pipe or an unthreaded aluminium central heating pipe with a plastics outer coating. It has a projecting sleeve support which lies opposite the threaded joint and which is surrounded concentrically by a compression sleeve in order to form an annular gap. The pipe can be slid axially between the sleeves, and can be pressed onto the sleeve support so as to deform in a plastics manner. The compression sleeve sits on the sleeve support using an insulating ring (8), which is made from a synthetics material which may be translucent or transparent in order to control and ascertain the insertion depth of the pipe into the annular gap.
