TRANSFERRIN-BINDING PROTEIN DERIVED FROM NEISSERIA GONORRHOEAE AND NEISSERIA MENINGITIDIS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis-derived transferrin binding protein, a fragment having an immunological cross-reactivity, an analogue thereof and the like. SOLUTION: An iron-regulated, outer layer membrane protein found in Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis is important in transferrin receptor function. The protein is isolated through a transferrin affinity column and specifically binds to an antiserum caused by an iron-regulated outer layer membrane protein found in Neisseria gonorrhoeae and having about 100 kD of molecular weight.
