PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer to which a plurality of continuous sheets of recording medium is fed by calculation of an expected time of the detection of a rear end of a sheet. SOLUTION: The next sheet of the continuous sheet is fed according to the calculated time, before the rear end of a first sheet is detected. In the calculation of the expected time, the rear end of the first sheet is detected and mathematical filtering of the detected result of the rear end of the first sheet is carried out based on the expected time in the present estimation for detecting the next sheet, and the estimation is updated through the processing of the continuous sheet. The present estimation can be initialized by the detection of the rear end of a first sheet after feeding the first sheet of the continuous sheet. The feeding of the next sheet can be controlled by obtaining a time within a target range and by controlling a time between the first sheet and the next sheet for keeping the time, based on the time between the detection of the rear end of the first sheet and that of the next sheet.
