PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable ink jet recording device which eliminates the generation of time difference even during the occurrence of an ink deficiency and a failure in a recording head or during recovery processing, and provides a recording result similar to the recording result brought about by a normal recording operation without changing the order of the ejection of ink. SOLUTION: The ink jet recording device is provided with a failure detecting means for detecting the occurrence of the failures in the two recording heads 101 and 102, a stop control means for instructing the stop of a discharge operation performed by the failure recording head 101 (or 102) wherein the failure is detected by the failure detecting means, means (belts 105 and 106) for moving the head 101 (or 102) whose recording failure is detected by the failure detecting means to a position wherein the recovery processing is to be conducted, and an image forming means for forming an image by stopping the discharge operation performed by the head 101 (or 102) in response to stop instructions by the stop control means for the purpose of discharging the ink only by means of the other recording head 102 (or 101). |
