PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nickel hydrogen secondary battery which has the optimized capacity ratio of a negative electrode containing a hydrogen storage allow as a main component and a positive electrode and both satisfactory electrode capacity and charging and discharging cycle life. SOLUTION: In this battery, the amount M (g/cm<2> ) of a hydrogen storage alloy added to the unit surface area of the negative electrode is set to control x1 value in a following equation within a range at least 0.3 and at most 0.8:C=x1 ×S×M wherein C (mAh/cm<2> ) stands for the capacity of the unit surface area of the positive electrode and S (mAh/g) for the value obtained by conversion of the maximum hydrogen storage amount of the hydrogen storage alloy of the negative electrode to the electric capacity. A separator for the battery is made of nonwoven fabric containing polyolefin fibers. |
