PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for minimizing the formation of a printing artifact and a printer capable of putting the process into action. SOLUTION: In this process, printing on a receiving material is done by means of the ink jet printer equipped with a print head, which has at least one print component and is fixed on a supporting component. The process comprises a step, wherein heat is applied to the print head until an operating temperature is made higher than a room temperature, a step, wherein the supporting component is moved in main scanning and subscanning directions with respect to the receiving material, and a step, wherein the print component is operated image-wise so that ink drops can be discharged from the print head in the direction of the receiving material. Additionally, the process guarantees that a position occupied by the print head with a respect to the fixed point of the supporting component is located substantially in a prescribed position during the printing on the receiving material.
