Branched alkoxide reaction products, and uses thereof

The reaction product of (a) a polyol having from 2 to 30 carbon atoms and from 2 to 12 hydroxyl groups, or an alkyl polyglycoside, with (b) an alkoxide of the formula where R3, R4, R5 and R6 are each independently hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl group. The above reaction products can then optionally be capped with one or more hydrophobic groups of the formula R7X. The invention also relates to uses therefor as surfactants and defoaming agents in aqueous and nonaqueous liquid compositions.
