A bone-marrow derived stem cell comprising a recombinant nucleic acid capable of expressing, in the bone-marrow derived stem cell or cell derived therefrom, a therapeutic product. The bone-narrow derived stem cell may be used in the treatment of tissue damage, for example liver damage, or in the correction of a genetic defect. The patient may be administered compositions which promote mobilisation of the stem cells and their maturation in to the desired type of differentiated cell. The bone-marrow derived stem cell may comprise a recombinant nucleic acid capable of expressing a cytotoxic product; this may be useful in removing the recombinant cells from the patient if the cells are no longer required. |
