The invention relates to a method based on optical absorption spectroscopy in the infra-red wavelength range, using laser diodes. According to said method, a monomode laser diode is tuned over a specific wavelength range, covering characteristic spectral lines of gases to be detected. The use of vertical cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSEL) involves a particularly low power consumption. The operation of the laser without temperature stabilisation is particularly advantageous. The discontinuous operation of the system further economises on power. |
