(1) A titanium compound or hydrous titanium compound represented by a specific chemical formula; (2) a titanium-containing aqueous solution suitable for use in evenly depositing titanium on a refractory inorganic oxide support; (3) a process for producing a titanium-containing aqueous solution which comprises adding an alkali compound and hydrogen peroxide to a titanium material to dissolve the titanium and subsequently adding a hydroxycarboxylic acid; (4) the support; (5) a highly active catalyst for the hydrogenation of a hydrocarbon oil which comprises the support and a specific metal supported thereon; and (6) a process for producing a low-sulfur hydrocarbon oil which comprises using the hydrogenation catalyst to hydrogenate a specific hydrocarbon oil.
