PURPOSE: A flat type fluorescent lamp and a method for fabricating the same are provided to improve productivity by simplifying a fabricating process. CONSTITUTION: The first electrodes(33) are formed on the first substrate(31). The first electrode(33) is formed with the first metal layer(33a) and the second metal layer(33b). The first metal layer(33a) is formed on a surface of the first substrate(31). The second metal layer(33b) is formed selectively on the first metal layer(33a). A fluorescent layer(37) is formed on the second substrate(35). The second electrodes(39) of a matrix type are formed on the fluorescent layer(37). A support portion(41) is formed selectively between the first substrate(31) and the second substrate(35). The first substrate(31) and the second substrate(35) are formed by a glass material. The first substrate(31) is formed by a metal material or an insulating material. A barrier layer(43) is formed on the first electrodes(33).
