PURPOSE: A method and a device for inputting the Korean alphabet by automatically distinguishing consonants and vowels are provided to arrange consonants and vowels in one key and in Korean alphabetical order if possible, so as to maximumly utilize the limited number of keys. CONSTITUTION: Consonants and vowels are allocated in one key. If a word is inputted based on a correspondence rule of consonants and vowels for initial consonants, vowels and final consonants of the Korean alphabet, a terminal automatically discriminates whether the intended word is for a consonant and a vowel thereby enabling the user to input the word correctly. A variable is provided as a core feature for storing and maintaining the stage of the sound among the three stages, an initial consonant, a vowel and a final consonant, of the intended word. And a functional key is also provided as a core feature for describing in the terminal that the input of a word without all three sounds, an initial consonant, a vowel and a final consonant is completed, to make a next word started with an initial consonant.
