PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system that enhances the reliability of an electronic mail address provided for a mobile communication terminal and to provide its authentication method. SOLUTION: A subscriber of a mobile terminal K1 transmits an electronic mail address MA1 to an authentication base station 1 and the authentication base station 1 acquires a subscriber ID #1 of the mobile terminal K1. Then an ID encryption means 3 encrypts the subscriber ID #1, attaches it to electronic mail and transmits the resulting electronic mail to an address MA1. A mobile terminal K2 whose electronic mail address is the address MA1 receives the electronic mail, the subscriber transmits return mail with the encrypted subscriber ID #1 attached thereto to the authentication base station 1, and the authentication base station 1 acquires a subscriber ID #2 of the mobile terminal K2. Then a decoding means 4 decodes the subscriber ID #1 attached to the return mail, a collation means 5 collates the subscriber IDs #1, #2 and registers the address MA1 to a registration database 6 when both IDs are coincident.
