PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetoresistive thin film magnetic head of yoke type, by which the reproducing output is increased and also the reproducing efficiency is improved. SOLUTION: In the magnetoresistive thin film magnetic head of yoke type, at least either a free layer 4C or a pin layer 4A of a TMR element 4 is electrically and magnetically connected to the yoke 5 direct. The drawing out area 4C' drawn out to the area overlapped with a lower yoke 5A of the yoke 5 is disposed on the free layer 4C, and the free layer 4C and the lower yoke 5A are interconnected by interposing this drawing out area 4C' between them. The drawing out area 4A' drawn out to the area overlapped with a lower yoke 5B of the yoke 5 is disposed on the pin layer 4A, and the pin layer 4A and the lower yoke 5B are interconnected by interposing the drawing out area 4A' between them. For these connections, an insulator such as an MR gap layer is not being interposed.
