PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new electrolyte in solid or gel form and its method of manufacture, and a photoelectric conversion element and a photoelectrochemical battery using the electrolyte for excellent durability, etc. SOLUTION: The electrolyte in solid or gel form contains a crosslinked polymer and a redox pair, with the polymer being obtained by reacting at least a compound having a hydroxy group at its terminal with a compound having an isocyanate group. The photoelectric conversion element comprises at least the electrolyte, a semiconductor electrode and a counter electrode. Further, the photoelectrochemical battery having the photoelectric conversion element has a pigment supported on the semiconductor electrode. The method of manufacturing the electrolyte includes preparing a solution containing at least the compound having a hydroxy group at its terminal, the compound having an isocyanate group, and a redox pair, and causing a crosslinking reaction so as to convert the electrolyte into solid or gel form. |
