PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact magnetic head whose entire size is reduced and which is inexpensively manufactured irrespective of the arrangement of a pair of coils wound on a core. SOLUTION: The contact magnetic head 1 is provided with a magnetic core 10 having nearly square-shaped section to be buried in a head main body 5, a pair of coils 22 and 24 continuously wound respectively on a pair of vertical pieces 12 and 13 facing each other on the core 10, a pair of horizontal pieces 14 and 15 extended nearly horizontally from the lower ends of the vertical pieces 12 and 13 to approach each other, and a magnetic contact pad 20 having a pair of magnetic poles 16 and 17 formed on the tips of the horizontal pieces, and placed adjacently to each other across a gap 18, and positioned on the bottom surface 7 of the head main body 5. The horizontal piece 15 near the end surface 8 of a traveling direction in the head main body 5 is shorter than the horizontal piece 14 near the center of the head main body 5.
