PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of properly performing reading of an original using an automatic original carrying device by regularly confirming the state of a book-original reading part. SOLUTION: In this image reader, whether or not an original is set on an original placing plate is checked according to ADF state interruption to be regularly generated in a waiting mode, and when any original is present in the ADF, the state of a book reading part is confirmed, and when the state of the book reading part is a 'book reading part open' state, error display is operated at an operating part. Also, when the state of the book reading part is not the 'book reading part open' state, whether or not any original is present in the book reading part is checked, and when the original is present, the error display is operated at the operating part, and when any original is not present in the book reading part, the setting of the reading operation is operated according to an inputted reading condition, and the reading of the original is operated. Therefore, it is possible to surely prevent an original from carried using the ADF in the state that the original on the original placing stand is left behind or a presser plate is opened, and to improve usability. |
