PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a dropout part by a fixed attenuation level with respect to the signal amplitude of a high frequency signal obtained from an optical disk or a magneto-optical disk, when the amplitude is varied. SOLUTION: This circuit is provided with a peak detecting circuit 1 for detecting the peak of the high frequency signal, a peak hold circuit 2 for holding the peak value of the high frequency signal, a comparative level producing circuit 6 for subtracting a fixed value from a peak hold signal outputted from the peak hold circuit 2, and a comparator 5 for comparing an output signal of the peak detecting circuit 1 and an output signal of the comparative level producing circuit 6.
