PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid an activated automatic call back function from being released due to absence or the like after the automatic call back function is activated. SOLUTION: The automatic call back method of a key telephone system comprises a step S1 for judging whether a setting operation on automatic call back is performed on a calling side terminal in an off hook state from calling time when an incoming side terminal is in a busy state, a step S20 for informing the calling side terminal in the off hook state of the effect when the setting operation on automatic call back is judged to be performed, a step S4 for judging whether the incoming side terminal becomes the busy state from an idle state, and steps S5, S6, S10 and S11 for automatically starting a call to the incoming side terminal in the idle state from the calling side terminal in the off hook state when the incoming side terminal is judged to become the idle state.
