The invention concerns a frequency multiplexer designed to provide the state and the address of at least an on/off contact (5) to an automatic control via two conductors (2a and 2b). The invention is characterised in that it comprises means for generating (17) a frequency signal, a passive component (11) electrically connected to the contact and a receiver (18) adapted to determine the state and the address of said contact. The signal transmission device comprises a variable frequency generator (21) delivering a sinusoidal signal (28) in accordance with a cyclic frequency (42) managed by a time base (20). The passive component (11) of the ceramic or quartz filter type. The invention is applicable to multiplex systems.
