PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable volume type keyboard unit which is extended in a prescribed direction. SOLUTION: A switch group is formed by connecting integrally some groups connected in a prescribed direction of a plurality of switches 1a for performing an input operation with a vertical motion operation by providing a return spring between a key top and a contact under the key top by an appropriate housing, both ends of the housing of the switch groups in a longitudinal direction are also attached in a slidable way, the housings of adjacent switch groups are connected by a connection arm extended from the housing of one switch group in a slidable way, and a movable unit 9 for extension is provided by connecting the respective switch groups. One end of an arm member is attached to the movable unit 9 of the switch groups, a gear is also provided around the center of the base body of the keyboard unit, and the movable unit 9 is extended with a turning operation of the gear by attaching gear teeth provided on the side edge of the other end part of the arm member to the gear.
