PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium, a recording device, a reproducing device, and a recording/reproducing method, capable of preventing the alteration of data due to modification of equipment, the modification of driver software or the like and preventing illegal recording/reproducing in/from an non-permitted medium. SOLUTION: A plurality of different ciphering keys is previously prepared for a preformater and a key selection circuit 13 selects one of the ciphering key in accordance with the sort of a medium to be prepared. A disk key data ciphering circuit 11 ciphers a disk key Kd by the ciphering key, selected by the circuit 13 to generate ciphering data Ekr for the recording device. A disk key data ciphering circuit 12 ciphers the disk key Kd, by a ciphering key KP for a reproducing device to generate ciphering data Ekp for the reproducing device. The two generated ciphering data Ekr, Ekp are recorded in a 2nd area 5 to be a read-only area. At this stage, data are not recorded in a 1st area 4. |
