PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image restoration method that can reproduce gray and all colors nearly equal to original colors, even when an object is photographed by a light source of different kind that is significantly deviated from a light source, in compliance with the daylight. SOLUTION: A spectral reflectance of an object is estimated through a linear sum between n-sets (n is an integer of 3 or more) of prescribed prescribed functions and n-sets of signals, which are obtained by making a prescribed n×n matrix act on signals from n-sets of sensors of a color image pickup device photographing the object, by using a light source of a different kind including line spectrums and deviated from a reference light source, in compliance with the daylight, and the task above can be solved by using the reflectance, so as to restore the photometric values of the object in the reference light source.
