A perpendicular magnetic recording head and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve the recording characteristic in high density recording by laminating a magnetic layer and an insulating layer alternately. A perpendicular magnetic recording head comprises a coil which generates magnetic field for recording information a perpendicular magnetic recording medium when current is applied, and a magnetic path forming part which creates the magnetic path of magnetic field generated by the coil, where a magnetic layer(ML) and an insulating layer(IL) are alternately laminated in at least a part of the magnetic forming part. The magnetic path forming part includes a main pole(140) having a pole tip part applying recording magnetic field, a return yoke(150) having an end arranged opposite to the pole tip part, and a sub yoke(130) separated from the perpendicular magnetic recording medium.
