METHOD FOR PROCESSING PPP OVER ETHERNET SERVICE IN ATM-BASED MPLS NETWORK

PURPOSE: A method for processing PPPoE(Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) service in an ATM-based MPLS(MultiProtocol Label Switching) network is provided to supply PPPoE service to a subscriber who wants to be provided Internet service through an ATM-based ADSL. CONSTITUTION: An FCC(Forwarding Control Channel) to transfer a control packet is set up between an IPCP(Internet Protocol Control Processor) and an FE(Forwarding Engine,501). If a PPPoE subscriber packet contained in an AAL5 frame is received to an MPLS system, the FE stores an interface channel with an ATM switch having received the subscriber packet in an FE_CH variable(502). The FE checks whether the value of an LLC(Logical Link Control) field among the LLC header of the received packet is 0xAAAA03(503). If the LLC field value is 0xAAAA03, the FE checks whether the value of an OUI(Organizationally Unique Identifier) field is 0x0080C2(504). In case that the OUI field value is 0x0080C2, the FE checks whether the value of a PID(Packet IDentifier) field is 0x0001 or 0x0007(505). If the PID field value is 0x0001 or 0x0007, the FE checks an Ethernet type field in a PPPoE frame(506). If the value of the Ethernet type field is 0x8863, the FE adds an FCC header in order to transmit the received packet to the IPCP(507). The PPPoE packet containing the FCC header is transmitted to a PPP server in the IPCP(508). The PPP server executes a PPPoE discovery control procedure(509).
