PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can conduct a wide variety of dropout processing. SOLUTION: A caption 30 is an original used for a question sheet where question sentences are described. A caption 31 denotes an answer column formed on the original 30. A part ABC in the answer column shows a correct answer to the question made by a teacher. The question sentences are typed in black and the correct answer is written in red. When a user designates the red color as a dropout color and the image reader reads the question sentences, the part of the correct answer is eliminated from the read image. The read image generated in this way is printed out on recording paper and distributed to students in a classroom, or the read image is faxed to students' homes. The user can optionally designate a desirably eliminated color as the dropout color.
