PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp electrode that can improve stability of discharging. SOLUTION: The top end of the cathode 42 comprises a metal substrate 43, a mesh shape member 45, and a pipe shape member 47. The metal substrate 43 is formed by kneading and sintering easy-electron radiation material in a high melting point metal and has a circular cone shape spire part 44. The mesh shape member 45 has a nearly circular cone shape same as the shape of the spire part 44 and contacts with the metal substrate 43 (spire part 44) so as to cover the spire part. The mesh member 45 is made of a high melting point material (for example, tungsten, etc.), having electric conductivity. The mesh shape member 45 is held clipped between the outer circumference of the metal substrate and the inner circumference of the pipe shape member 47.
