PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection and reporting method of a road congestion situation capable of precisely detecting the congestion situation over a wide range. SOLUTION: Transmitters and receivers 3a, 3b and 5a, 5b are installed in both of vehicles 2a and 2b passing a predetermined section of a road 1 and the road 1 to perform communication, positions of the vehicles 2a and 2b passing the road 1 are collected in position information collection devices 7a and 7b based on the communication, the congestion situation of the road 1 is calculated by an information processor 6 based on running speeds of the vehicles 2a and 2b detected based on the communication, the number of running vehicles, and position data of the vehicles 2a and 2b collected in the position information collection devices 7a, 7b, and the results of calculation are displayed in a display unit 8.
