PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To completely eliminate counterfeit coins by precisely identifying the conditions of the surfaces and reverses of the coins. SOLUTION: The coin identifying device for carrying a high frequency current in sensors arranged at the sides of a coin path 13 and identifying the coins in accordance with a change in amplitude when the coins pass in front of the sensors comprises two pairs of coil sensors 3-1, 3-2 and 3-3, 3-4 as the sensors opposed two by two across the coin path 13 and arranged transverse to coin path planes, the total four coil sensors being connected in series and in phase. The used coil sensors 3-1 to 3-4 are pot core coil sensors having diameters smaller than the diameters of characteristic uneven picture designs applied onto the surfaces and reverses of the coins to be detected.
