PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern recognition method and a computer-readable storage medium stored with a program executing pattern recognition, having high detection accuracy with suppressing calculation cost by using a similarity measure robust in fluctuation. SOLUTION: This pattern recognition method compares between gray values of two pixels in a first image wherein plural pixels are respectively arranged in the column direction and in the row direction, finds a reference three-value comparison image wherein the magnitude relation or the equivalent relation is represented in three-value, compares between gray values of two pixels in a second image wherein plural pixels are respectively arranged in the column direction and in the row direction, finds a target three-value comparison image wherein the magnitude relation or the equivalent relation is represented in three-value, finds the coincidence number of the three-value relations in corresponding positions between the reference three-value comparison image and the target three-value comparison image, and decides similarity between the target three-value comparison image and the reference three-value comparison image from the coincidence number. By this process, the detection accuracy of matching is improved with suppressing calculation cost.
