PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for reading images with which appropriate and excellent images are read and smooth and efficient work is realized. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an original feed means for feeding an original onto a platen, a read means for reading the original carried to a prescribed position on the platen, an image processing means for processing image signals obtained in the read means, a dust detection means for detecting dust on the platen and a control means for individually and mutually controlling the respective pieces of means and is constituted so as to read original images. In the case that image read start is requested while executing dust detection by the dust detection means, after the dust detection is stopped, the read means is controlled. |
