PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a retrieval system which can retrieve the latest data and include even information of a database having no device for accessing a satellite line as an object of the retrieval. SOLUTION: Databases 12 which store electronic data are decentralized and arranged on a network, a retrieval server 13 has the indexes of the electronic data that the respective database 12 stores, performs retrieval using an index at a retrieval request from a retrieval requesting device 11, broadcasts the retrieval request received from the retrieval requesting device 11 to the respective databases 12 through a communication satellite 14 to obtain electronic data complying with the retrieval request from the databases 12, and puts together and sends them to the retrieval requesting device 11.
