PURPOSE: A method for providing status information necessary for management in a router system is provided to transfer necessary information for management using the I/O ports of a router CPU, without using an additional buffer. CONSTITUTION: Data streams, provided from a main board, an option card or a cable for an external interface, are inputted to general_purpose I/O ports in a CPU, not to a buffer. As the general_purpose I/O ports are not fixed to be used for special purposes, a user can flexibly modify their purposes. Accordingly, the general_purpose I/O ports can be used for the input and output of simple data. Especially, the general_purpose I/O ports are used in the case of providing status information necessary for router management to the CPU.
