PURPOSE: An apparatus for on-line detecting cracks on the surface of a work roll is provided which is capable of on-line detecting cracks on the surface of the work roll during rolling. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for on-line detecting cracks on the surface of a work roll comprises a flowing pipe in which a fluid flowing path is formed; a roll contact part(4) which is connected to one side of the end part of the flowing pipe and contacted with the work roll(1); a supersonic sensor(2) which is positioned at the other side of the end part of the flowing pipe with being oppositely directed to the roll contact part(4) and connected to a supersonic signal generator to irradiate supersonic waves to the work roll(1) and receive reflected signals; a driving unit(7) enabling the roll contact part(4) to be contacted with the work roll(1) and the flowing pipe to be moved along a length direction of the work roll(1); a supply unit supplying a medium so that the medium is always filled in a space between the supersonic sensor(2) and the surface of the work roll(1); and a discharge hole(6) which is formed between the roll contact part(4) and the flowing pipe so that a part of the medium is discharged into the outside.
