Known optically switches are based on the principle of saturable absorption. An absorber section that is formed by applying a voltage in the direction of reverse biasing is saturated by a control pulse by which absorption is briefly reduced so that an approximately simultaneous data pulse can be transmitted. After that, however, a regeneration interval for the absorber section must be observed. The switching window cannot be optimally adjusted, for high data pulse rates, as used for example in demultiplexing systems, as the known switch is not sufficiently adapted. An amplifier section present in the known switch merely serves to amplify the signal. The aim of the invention is therefore to provide an optically controlled switch with a controlled absorber section that can also be used for especially rapid switching. To this end, the inventive switch (OS) is provided with an amplifier section (OAS) that controlled separately from the absorber section (SAS) via a control line (CLOAS) of its own with parametrically adjusted control pulses (CPOAS). The saturation behavior of the amplifier section (OAS) is thereby more efficiently utilized, allowing to substantially shorten the switching window by influencing its both flanks in accordance with the time delay ( DELTA t) between the control pulses (CPSAS, CPOAS) and the switching contracts can be substantially improved. |
