PURPOSE: A method for turning off the LCD of a mobile terminal is provided to preserve data more efficiently by turning off the operation of the LCD of a mobile terminal when the mobile terminal is missing. CONSTITUTION: If a mobile switching center transmits an SMS message, based on a user's request, to a base station., the base station transmits the SMS message to a lost terminal. The lost terminal approves message reception by transmitting an ACK message to the base station. Then the lost terminal judges whether the received SMS message is an encrypted string(ST31). In other words, the lost terminal compares whether the received string is matched with a preset string. If the received string is matched with the preset string, the lost terminal disables a signal supplied to the enable port of a regulator through the input-output port of an MSM so that the operation of the regulator can be disabled. Accordingly, as power supplied to the power supply port of an LCD is interrupted, the LCD is turned off. At this moment, the lost terminal changes a non-volatile data variable so that the LCD can maintain the power-off state when power is inputted again(ST32).
