The invention relates to the use of novel catalysts containing a metal-free cyclopentadienide compound and a transition metal compound for the polymerisation of unsaturated compounds, particularly conjugated dienes. The use of methyl aluminoxane (MAO) or compounds containing boron which act as a cocatalyst can thus be dispensed with and high catalyst activity can still be achieved.
