A surgery motor has a detachable connection (5) for a drive shaft driving a surgical tool and a control unit for the operation of the motor. At the connection there is a magnet (1) and a magnetic sensor (13) in it's magnetic field. The drive shaft in the connected state is located so that in the region of the magnet and/or the sensor, the material of the shaft can influence the size of the magnetic field at the sensor. The sensor passes signals corresponding to the size of the measured magnetic field to the control unit which adjusts the motor parameters according to these signals.
