The lock assembly for a manhole cover (12) consists of a lock (14) with a hole (26) for inserting a rotary key (16), the hole being extended by a passage with an outlet (28), and a mobile lock member (74) with a shaped surface (76) to receive the key bit (36). The lock has a covering wall (72) for its mobile member, extending transversely to the direction of engagement, forming the end of the key outlet and an aperture for the key bit. The key bit lies in line with the body (32) of the key for insertion, and is then turned through 90 degrees by a lever (42) and rod (40) to engage with the lock. |
