<p>The invention relates to the use of ZnO for producing hygiene products, the Zno being present in the form of chemically or physically modified nanoparticles on the surface thereof. The chemical or physical modification of the particle surface occurs with the aid of organic compounds, especially (a) carboxylic acids (mono-, di- and polycarboxylic acids) or derivatives thereof such as anhydrides, halogenides and esters (including lactones); (b) amino acids; (c) hydroxy-carboxylic acids and saccharic acids such as glucaric acid, gluconic acid, glucuronic acid; (d) polyglycolic acids of general formula HOOC-CH2-O-(CH2-CH2-O)n-CH2-COOH, wherein n is preferably 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 or 12; (e) ethercarboxylic acids of general formula R-(O-CH2-CH2)n-O-CH2-COOH, wherein R is preferably C6, C8, C10, C12, C14 , C16, C18alkyl, alkenyl or alkinyl and wherein n is prefe rably 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 or 12; (f) alkyl halogenides; or (g) silanes of type (OR)4-nSiR'n, wherein R is methyl, ethyl, propyl, i-propyl, butyl, t-butyl and R' is an organic radical, particularly an aliphatic radical with functional groups such as OH, -COOH, ester, amine, or epoxy, wherein preferably R' is C6, C8, C10, C12, C14, C16, C18alkyl, alkenyl or alkinyl, aminopropyl, N-aminoethyl-3-aminopropyl, n- or i-propyl-N,N,N,-dimethyloctadecylammo-niumchloride, n- or i-propyl-N,N,N,-trimethylammonium-chloride, n- or i-propylsuccinite-acid hydride.</p> |
