The holder has two clamps (1, 2) spaced from each other so that they can be brought into active connection simultaneously with a cycle wheel standing on the ground. Each clamp has an opening (3, 6) widening out towards the cycle to hold wheels of different width tyres. The wedged openings each point radially towards the rotary axis of a wheel of average diameter and each have a wedge width, length and opening angle so that the wheels of most sized cycles can automatically be clamped therein.
