This invention relates to recA mutant mycobacteria, particularly mutants of mycobacterial species which are members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, such as M.bovis BCG and M. tuberculosis. These mutant mycobacteria are useful as immunotherapeutic agents and vaccines for the treatment of a range of disorders, including tuberculosis.
