<p>A process for producing a phthalaldehyde which comprises reacting at least one compound selected between o-xylylene glycol and o-xylylene oxide with nitric acid. The nitric acid is used in an amount of about 0.2 to 20 mol per mol of the compound selected between o-xylylene glycol and o-xylylene oxide. The process enables a phthalaldehyde to be efficiently produced from easily available materials.</p> |
