A gear shift transmission has an input shaft (1) and an output shaft (2) and several sets of gear wheels (e.g. 8, 9) of different ratios, with a fixed wheel (e.g. 3, 4) and a free wheel (e.g. 5, 6) to transmit torque via a shift clutch. At least one such shift clutch in the gear shift transmission is a switchable freewheeling one.
