NOVEL BENZIMIDAZOLE DERIVATIVES FOR THE TREATMENT OF GABA-ALFA MEDIATED DISORDERS

Novel benzimidazole derivatives of the general formula (I) where the meanings of R<1> and R<2> are as given in the claims and the description, pharmaceutical compositions containing these compounds, and methods of treatment therewith. The compounds are useful in the treatment of central nervous system diseases and disorders, which are responsive to modulation of the GABAA receptor complex, and in particular for inducing and maintaining anaesthesia, sedation and muscle relaxation, as well as for combating febrile convulsions in children. The compounds of the invention may also be used by veterinarians.
