PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optically active compound useful as a photo-reactive chiral agent enabling photoisomerization and capable of remarkably changing the spiral structure (twisting force and twist angle) of a liquid crystal by light irradiation when added to the liquid crystal, a photo-reactive chiral agent composed of the optically active compound, a liquid crystal composition incorporated with the optically active compound, a liquid crystal color filter, an optical film and a recording medium, and to provide a method for changing the spiral structure of the liquid crystal of the liquid crystal composition incorporated with the optically active compound and a method for fixing the spiral structure. SOLUTION: The optically active compound is expressed by formula (1) [Ar is an aryl or a heterocyclic group; R is an alkoxycarbonyl, an aryloxycarbonyl, an aryl, a heterocyclic group, carbamoyl or cyano; L is a bivalent group; and a binaphthyl group has (R) or (S) axial asymmetry].
