PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizer in which only the surface to be stuck to a polarizer film is saponified and whose durability in the case of being stuck to a liquid crystal cell substrate is improved. SOLUTION: In the polarizing plate composed of two sheets of protective films arranged on both surfaces of the polarizer film, a cellulose triacetate film obtained by mono-layer casting a cellulose triacetate solution comprising cellulose triacetate dissolved in a solvent substantially containing no dichloromethane or a cellulose triacetate film obtained by plural layer co-casting a plurality of cellulose triacetate solutions is used as at least one of the protective films, and only the surface of the cellulose triacete on the polarizer film side is saponified.
