PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration damping mechanism that can damp a lid from a start to an end of opening, and a container holder using the vibration damping mechanism. SOLUTION: A shaft 48 is fitted with a small sector gear 64, with which a damping gear 62 is engaged. A shaft 50 is fitted with a sector gear 54, with which a damping gear 60 is engaged. When the shaft 48 is moved along a branch portion 43A branching from a guide part 43, the engagement of the small sector gear 64 and the damping gear 62 damps the urging force of an opening spring 56. When the shafts 48 and 50 are moved in the guide part 43, the engagement of the sector gear 54 and the damping gear 60 damps the urging force of the opening spring 56. Even with the lid 14 whose locus of movement changes on the way, the urging force of the opening spring 56 can be damped continuously from a start to an end of opening.
