PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a printer in which print operation can be limited when a specified time has elapsed after starting print operation or a specified number of sheets have been printed. SOLUTION: When a user pushes a print button, a decision is made at step S1 whether a specified time has elapsed after previous print operation. If it has elapsed, the control advances to step S2, otherwise the number of print sheets is cleared at step S3 before advancing to step S2. At step S2, a decision is made whether the number of printed sheets exceeds a limit number of sheets. If the limit number of sheets is exceeded, the control advances to step S4, otherwise a decision is made at step S5 whether printing is performed forcibly. If printing is performed forcibly, the control advances to step S4 by pushing a button, for example. After printing is performed at step S4, the number of printed sheets is recorded at step S6 before ending the operation. If printing is not performed forcibly at step S5, a decision is made at step S7 whether printing is performed a specified time later or not, and the operation is ended if it is not performed, otherwise the operation is ended at step S8 while leaving that job.
